Municipal Elections

Municipal Elections in Alberta take place every four years.  Next Municipal Election will be in 2025.

The last Municipal Election took place on Monday, October 18, 2021.

Senate / Referendum Vote 2021

The Order in Council and Writ of Election for the 2021 Alberta Senate Election was issued on June 23, 2021, to hold an election to select 3 Senate nominees who may be summoned to the Senate of Canada, to fill a vacancy or vacancies relating to Alberta. The Senate Election will take place on October 18, 2021, in conjunction with the 2021 Alberta Municipal Elections.

All local jurisdictions holding elections on October 18, 2021 will facilitate the vote by also issuing the senate election ballot to electors. In addition to election day voting, local jurisdictions may also offer advance voting, institutional voting, and special ballot voting. At each voting opportunity, the senate election ballot will be provided to electors to vote in this election.

The Orders in Council were issued on August 9, 2021 for two referendum questions to be voted on during the local elections on October 18, 2021.

The polling station was the Claresholm Community Centre located at 5920 - 8th Street West.
Voting hours were 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

There was a by-election held for the position of ONE COUNCILLOR on Monday, October 15, 2018.

A Vote of the Electors regarding Bylaw #1674, a Borrowing Bylaw, was held on Monday, September 30, 2019.

Election Day & Polling Stations

Election Day is Monday, October 18, 2021. Polling station is the Claresholm Community Centre located at 5920 - 8th Street West. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Advance poll will take place on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Claresholm Community Centre north hall for anyone who will not be able to vote on Election Day.

Voter Identification is required by all voters. Each voter must produce one piece of identification that establishes both the elector’s name and current address. For information regarding Voter Eligibility Identification Requirements, please click the link below.

You must be 18 years old, a Canadian Citizen and be a resident of Alberta on Election Day. Your place of residence must be in the Town of Claresholm on Election Day in order to vote for Mayor and Councillors.
